The Mode Of Tawaf

Tawaf (Circumambulation) means turning round and round something but in the terminology of Shari’at one’s going round the Holy Ka’ba seven times with the intention of Tawaf is called ‘Tawaf’. One complete circuit is named as ‘Shaut’. Circumambulating any thing or place other than ‘Baitullah’ is unlawful. For ‘Tawaf’, intention is obligatory. Without defining an intention ‘Tawaf’ will stand unobserved, in whatever number the circuits may be completed. The intention for Tawaf, is to be pronounced with these words :-

“O Allah ! I intend Tawaf for the sake of Thy pleasure; Render it easy for me and accord it Thy approval”.

Celebrating the Praises of the All Praise-Worthy

So let us evaluate ourselves and try to figure out how much Allah is commemorated in our lives. If a believer gets the taste of celebrating the praises of his Allah then slowly, but surely, he develops a unique fondness for Him. And then a time comes when without remembrance he cannot exist. This love takes such a strange turn that we find ourselves yearning for it.  It has its own sweetness and allure. Like a man loves somebody, he cannot then live without remembering the beloved. Exclusive of the fact that the bond of attachment and love with Allah is so intense that the mortal worldly gears cannot even dare trying to win against it. It is this love that gratifies a believer; only this relishing him.

The Sign of Allah Being There In Our Lives

Moreover, the sign of Allah being there in our lives is that come what may, first and foremost the attention goes onto Him alone. Like a child who gets hurts while playing round the avenue and cries out for his mother (although his mother is nowhere near him at the spot). But this is because it is subscribed there in his heart that my safe haven is my mother. Likewise, a Momin too immediately calls out onto Allah, goes in Sajdah, rings the call and makes a connection. That is also what the customs of our predecessors portray that where they heard lightening and thunder strike, they used to assemble in the masjids. Where they foresaw a mishap, they went into prostration. Where they had a storm in their lives they started knocking at the door of their merciful Lord.

WAJIBAAT

The following fifteen things are wajib in salaat. If you forget to perform any one of these things during namaz your namaz will be incomplete and you will have to perform sajdah sahw. If you leave off performing a wajib on purpose, then you will be a sinner and the entire salaat will have to be repeated.

  1. To begin the namaz with the special words “Allahu Akbar”
  2. To recite surah Fatiha in the first two rakaats of the fard namaz and in every rakat of witr and nafil namaz.

IRKAAN (PILLARS INSIDE SALAAT)

The pillars of salaat are five and they are what are considered fard in salaat. The person who leaves off any one of these five things whether it is done intentionally or unintentionally will render his salaat null and void.

Qiyaam (standing)

Salaat is not accepted sitting if you have the power to stand.

Standing is fard in fard and wajib salaats, it is not fard to stand in nafil salaats. It is permissible to sit when you have the power to stand in nafil salaats.

Qiraat (recitation of Quran)
