عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّى (1)

[80:1] He (the Prophet) frowned and turned his face,

أَنْ جَاءَهُ الأَعْمَى (2)

[80:2] because the blind man came to him!

وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُ يَزَّكَّى (3)

[80:3] What could tell you (O prophet about the prospects of the blind man?) May be, (if you had attended him properly,) he would have attained purity,

أَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنْفَعَهُ الذِّكْرَى (4)

My friends, the first thing is that the idea of love in Islam has its own confines and precincts. Islam is not a religion which has no regard for human temperament; love is after all the need of the human nature. Hadrat Abdullah-lbn-AbbaS (Radi Allaahu Ta’ala Anhu) narrated: A man came to the Messenger of ALLAH and said, Sometimes such evil thoughts occur to me that I would rather be burnt to ashes than make a mention of them. The Messenger of ALLAH replied, Praise and thanks be to ALLAH who has turned this affair into one of evil suggestions (i.e. has made those thoughts remain thoughts only) and not turning them into doubt and evil deeds. Hazrat Um Salmah R.A. reports that Rasulullah Sal’am said: “Whosoever puts on his ihraam for an umrah from Baitul Muqaddas, shall be forgiven’.

This Hadith speaks for itself. One Tabi’iyya, (A Muslim woman who saw the Prophet Sal’am). Hazrat Um Hakeem R.A. hearing this hadith from hazrat Um Salmah R.A. undertook a special journey to Baitul Muqaddas to put on her ihraam there, for an umrah to Mecca. (Targheeb)

That was the spirit of those people that whenever they heard the commands and advices of Rasulullah Sal’am they immediately endeavored to put them into action, according to their means. Allah, Most High say,

{But the plotting of evil will hem in only the authors thereof} (Fatir: 43)

The Prophet (pbuh) said,

“Plotting and duplicity are in the Hell-Fire.” (Al-Hakim and Al-Baihaqi)

“A deceiver, a miser and he who reminds recipients of his charity to them will not enter paradise.”

Allah the Almighty says about the hypocrites:

{They seek to deceive Allah, but it is Allah who deceive them.} (An-Nisa: 142)

Al-Wahidi said, “They will be treated in the manner they treated others: they will be shown the light as the believers but when they approach the Sirat (a bridge on fire) the light diminishes and they will be left in darkness.  Read more... (139 words, estimated 33 secs reading time)

Abdullah Ibn Mas’ud related that the Prophet (pbuh) said,

“I have considered having a man lead people at prayer and going myself to those who stay back from attending the congregational prayer to bum their houses down upon them.”

“If the people forgo the Friday Prayer, Allah will set a seal on their hearts for them to become heedless.”( Muslim)

“Whoever misses three Friday prayers without a legal excuse, Allah will set a seal on his heart.”( Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi)

Allah Most High says,

{And never give up hope of Allah’s soothing mercy: truly no one despairs of Allah’s soothing mercy, except those who have no faith. } (Yusuf: 87)

{He is the one that sends down rain (even) after (men) have given up all hope.} (Ash-Shura: 28)

{Say, ‘O my servants who have transgressed against their souls! Despair not of the mercy of Allah).} (AzZummar: 53)

The Prophet (pbuh) said,

Allah, Most High says,

{Until, in the midst of their enjoyment of our gifts, on a sudden We called then to account, when lot They were plunged in despair!} (Al-An’am: 44)

This means that the punishment occurs suddenly while they are heedless. Al-Hasan said, whoever is blessed but unaware of Allah’s decision he is heedless, and whoever is afflicted but unaware of Allah’s trials is also heedless. Allah, Most High says,

{Say, ‘See ye? If your stream was lost one morning (in the underground), who then can supply you with clear flowing water?}(Al-Mulk: 30)

The Prophet (pbuh) said,

“Do not withhold excess water to withhold pasturage.”( Bukhari)

Although one should pray to Allah at all times for all one’s needs, our eternally blessed Prophet has taught us some specific prayers for special occasions at different times of night and day, e.g. upon waking up, when going to the toilet and coming out of it, when performing ablution, upon entering and coming out of the mosque, upon entering the house, before meals and after meals hearing the adhan, when dressing, when looking in mirror, before falling asleep in bed.  Read more...
