Wisdom and Virtue of Hajj

Following, are a further few points of the deeper meaning of Haj. These I wish to outline merely as a specimen indicative of the many significance of Haj, similar to the two points of wisdom and virtue mentioned at the beginning of this chapter.

1. There are times when rulers, governors and kings call the various classes of their subjects together to discuss matters with them and receive reports. For this reason they are often made into various organizations; and each has its annual conference. This is what happens in Haj where representatives from all over the glove, from all spheres of life and from all ranks; gather at His House. Such is the Haj congregation.

2. PRAYING

Allah likes his bondsmen to pray to Him. If a man, however beneficent he may be, is again and again asked for anything, he sooner or later loses his patience and becomes angry. But Allah, on the contrary, is, pleased the more his bondsmen ask him.

Hadith tells as that Allah is displeased with one who does not ask him for anything in prayer.

51) Overburdening and Arrogance against others

This includes overbearing the weak, the male slave, the female slave, the wife and the beast. Allah, the Almighty ordered us to deal in kindness towards these varieties. He said,

{Serve Allah and join not any partners with Him, and do good to parents, kinsfolk, orphans, those in need, neighbors who are of kin, neighbors who are strangers, the companion by your side, the way-fairer( ye meet) and what your right hands possess: for Allah loveth not the arrogant, the vainglorious} (An-Nisa’: 36)

Concerning Allah’s saying,

{Serve Allah, and join not any partners with Him}

39) Breach of Faith

Allah Most High says,

{O ye that believe! Betray not the trust of Allah and the Messenger, nor misappropriate knowingly things entrusted to you.} (Al-anfal: 27)

Al-Wahidi (may Allah bestow mercy on him) said, “This verse is revealed concerning Abu Lubabah who was sent by the Prophet (pbuh) to the Jews of Banu Quraizah during the siege of Muslims to their land. The Jews said to Abu Lubabah, these families are living among the Jews, what do you say concerning the submission to the judgment of sai’d. Abu Lubabah then pointed at his throat meaning that Sa’d would sentence you to be slaughtered. Abu Lubabah said, “I have not moved from my place until I realized that I betrayed Allah and His Messenger.”

Objection on Taqwa

Their last and biggest objection is on the condition of “Taqwa” (Fear of Allah, Piety, and Abstinence from evil- doings). According to them “Taqwa” like “knowledge” is not essential for interpreting the Qur’an. We do not understand what apprehension they have against it. According to them the complication in this regard is:

“The condition of “Taqwa” is a condition that, every scholar can reject the judgement of another scholar, because everyone has his own standard for Taqwa”. (Fikr-o-Nazar Nov.67, p.326)
