lstakharah Salaah (Salaah for seeking guidance)

1. Mas’la: Whenever one intends to do something, one should take guidance from ALLAH. Seeking guidance from ALLAH is called istikharah. This has been exhorted in a number of traditions the Prophet has said that not seeking guidance from ALLAH through lstikhara is nothing but ill luck and wretchedness. So before taking a decision on a proposal for marriage or before setting out on a journey or undertaking any other important assignment, one should seek guidance from ALLAH through lstikharah Salaah. [Raddul Mukhtar]

Azan And Iqamah In Small Jamat

Q. “While living in North America, we often perform salah with Jama’ah in our houses, shops, parks etc. Sometimes the number of participants does not exceed 2-3 persons. Is it necessary for us in these prayers to say Azan and Iqamah?”

A. Yes, Azan and Iqamah both are sunnah even when the number of the participants in salah is very small. The Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) once advised any two persons going on journey that whenever the time of ‘salah’ comes, they should say Azan and Iqamah and then perform salah with Iqamah.

Jumah Prayer While On Journey

Q. “What is the position of jum’ah prayer in journey? How far the jum’ah prayer is mandatory when one is on travel?”
(Ibid)

A. Jum’ah prayer is not mandatory (fard) on a traveller. It is permissible for him to perform the Zuhr prayer instead of Jum’ah. But since the Jum’ah prayer is far more rewardable than the normal Zuhr prayer, one should not miss it as far as possible even when he is on journey.

JOINING TWO SALAAH

Hadrat ‘Abdullah bin Mas’ud (Radi Allaahu Ta’ala Anhu) narrated that he never saw the Messenger of ALLAH (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) observe a Salaah out of its proper time with the exception of two, the sunset (Maghrib Salaah) and the night Salaah (Isha Salaah), which he combined, and the dawn Salaah (Fajar Salaah) which he observed that day (i.e. at Muzdalifa) before its proper time. [Bukhari, Muslim]

Hadrat ‘Abdullah – bin ‘Umar (Radi Allaahu Ta’ala Anhu) narrated to have said that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) combined the sunset (Maghrib Salaah) and the night (Isha Salaah) Salaah. [Bukhari]

REPEATING SALAAH IS NOT NECESSARY

Hadrat Abu Said al-Khudri (Radi Allaahu Ta’ala Anhu) narrated that from amongst the Companions of the Messenger of ALLAH two persons went out on journey, and when the time for Salaah approached, having no water with them, they performed ablution with clean earth and then performed Salaah. Immediately after that, they found water and one of them repeated the Salaah after performing ablution with water, but the other did not.

Oh Fortunate ones!

Oh guests of the Most Merciful! Oh fortunate ones! Oh travelers to the Haram! Congratulations on being invited by the Lord of the worlds! Be glad that He has invited you to His House! Not only that, but He has given you the provisions for travel and lodging. And not only that, but He has also filled your hearts with such love of Him and His House that today you leave your homes, your cities, your countries and embark on this journey solely for the pleasure of your Lord. Had this desire not been there then you would have never planned to undertake this journey.

Hadith Number Seven

Hazrat Um Salmah R.A. reports that Rasulullah Sal’am said: “Whosoever puts on his ihraam for an umrah from Baitul Muqaddas, shall be forgiven’.

This Hadith speaks for itself. One Tabi’iyya, (A Muslim woman who saw the Prophet Sal’am). Hazrat Um Hakeem R.A. hearing this hadith from hazrat Um Salmah R.A. undertook a special journey to Baitul Muqaddas to put on her ihraam there, for an umrah to Mecca. (Targheeb)

That was the spirit of those people that whenever they heard the commands and advices of Rasulullah Sal’am they immediately endeavored to put them into action, according to their means. They never cared about the hardship they had to undergo.

General Aadaab Part 02

18. When an animal has been hired car should be taken that only so much baggage should be loaded as the owner allows and no more. If the rental paid was for certain weight of baggage nothing more than that is permissible. The very same applies to a journey by rail, motor or plane. When a certain amount is allowed, it is not permissible without additional payments to take more than that, by concealing some items. Our elders used to be very careful of this. Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Mubaarak R.A., the famous Muhaddith and Imaam once proceeded on a journey on a rented animal. Someone requested him to take a letter along. He said: ‘I have already shown all my baggage to the owner of the camel. Now I shall have to inform him once more of this letter. If he would give permission I shall take the letter and deliver it.’ (Ithaaf)

Hadith Number One

Hazrat Abu Hurairah R.A. reports that Rasulullah Sal’am said: “When a pilgrim proceeds on his Haj journey with money, provision and his means of conveyance all acquired by lawful and Halaal earnings, then he embarks on means of transport; and cries: “Labbaik O’ Allah; Lab’baik”. A caller from the heavens; a farishta; calls to him: “Welcome indeed to you, and happy may you e, your provisions are proper (halaal), your means of transport is proper; paid for from halal earnings; and your Haj shall be righteous; and accepted by Allah’. And when he proceeds for Haj with unlawful and haraam earnings placing his foot in stirrup; and cries. “Labbaik O Allah, Lab’baik”, a caller from the heavens; a farishta; calls out to him: “No welcome to you, and no happiness, your provisions are unlawful (haraam) and so also are your earnings and your Haj is rejected”.

Hadith Number One

Hazrat Ibn Abbas R.A reports from Rasulullah Sal’am who said: “Whoever goes for Hajj to Mecca on foot, and return; for him is written the reward of seven hundred good deeds performed in the Holy Haram for every stride taken.” The companions asked: “And what is the meaning of good deeds of the Haram?”
