Hazrat Hakeem ul Ummat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi (rahmatullah alaihe) says it is wrong to reject the intercession of Allah Ta’ala, when He is, commanding to treat a wife well. She is weak and far from her parents, she is at our mercy. After giving birth to a few children she becomes weak and the husband takes out all his anger on her because she did not do some work of his. Alas! Why have you thought her to be like your maid (servant), how about you doing it yourself for a change. You were not given a wife to work for you. If she does any work for you, it is through her kindness. So Allah Ta’ala is interceding for His bondswoman, that treat your wife well, whether she be young or old, even if her teeth have fallen and her face has wrinkled. Not that when she was young and beautiful you did everything for her and now that she has grown old you treat her terribly. This in not correct. Think of this old lady who has grown old with you. When she was young and pretty you loved her, now that she is old, love her thinking it to be the command of Allah Ta’ala, and be kind to her for the same. If she has a headache, bring medicine for her and be merciful towards her.
The fourth verse recited was, (”O people of the world! Your Creator is advising you to) establish good conduct with your wives.”
Who can be more degraded, who can be low than one who fails to heed the intercession of Allah Ta’ala. These are the words of Hakeem ul Ummat (rahmatullah alaihe). I say nothing from my own side. Whatever I relate is from my elders.
Hazrat Abu Hurairah R.A. reports that Rasulullah Sal’am said: ‘when a person stands at my grave reciting blessings on me, I hear it; and whoever calls for blessings on me in any other place, his every need in this world and in the hereafter becomes fulfilled. And on the day of Qiyaamat I shall be his witness and intercession.’ (Bayhaqi)
Hazrat Ibn Umar R.A. relates that Rasulullah Sal’am said: ‘whosoever visits me and has no other motive, has a right over me that I intercede on his behalf’. (Tabraani)
Who is there amongst us who does not require Rasulullah Sal’am’s Shafaa’at (intercession) on the fearful day of Qiyaamat. And how fortunate is that person for whom Rasulullah Sal’am has said that his Shafaa’at is obligatory on me.
Hazrat Ibn Umar R.A. relates that Rasulullah Sal’am said: “Whosoever visits my grave, my intercession becomes obligatory for him.” (Bazaar-Dar-Qutni)
Hazrat Mullah Ali Qaari Rah, the famous aalim and Muhaddith has written that besides a few that are not authoritative who hold a different view the consensus of the Muslims is that to visit (Ziyaarat) Rasulullah Sal’am is an important act of piety. It is also a most desirable form of Ibaadat, a very successful way of attaining spiritual heights and an encouraging reason for an acceptable intercession. Some ulama have said that it is waajib (obligatory) upon that person who has the means to reach there. Hazrat Allama Shaami Rah, relates this same view from Hazrat Ibn Hajar Rah. To avoid going there is sheer negligence and carelessness. Some Maalikis have said that to go to reside in Madina is more desirable than to go to stay in Mecca.
2. FASTING (SAUM)
Our Trustworthy Advisor, Rasulullah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) has directed those persons who are unable to marry and bear its burden to fast. Nabi (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “0 Group of youth! Those amongst you who have the ability to marry should marry because it lowers the gaze and protects the private parts. And those who cannot marry should fast because fasting breaks desires.”
Next to Hajj the highest pre-eminence and the greatest blessings lie in paying a visit to the most sacred mausoleum of the greatest Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him), the beloved Messanger of Allah (Peace be upon him). The love and respect to the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him), in fact, stands as the prerequisites of Iman and as such one must feel natural urge as well towards the fact that on reaching the sacred territories one does not come back without paying a visit to the Holy Mausoleum. Furthermore, attendance before the sacred mausoleum and Praying Darood-o-Salam in front there of bear so great a reward and blessing that cannot be possibly achieved by paying Darood-o-Salam from far off places.
Hazrat Abu Moosa R.A. reports that Rasulullah Sal’am said: “the Hajji shall intercede on behalf of four hundred families or he said four hundred people from his family, and verily does he return from Hajj (sinless) as on the day his mother gave birth to him.”
The fact that the Hajji shall intercede on behalf of four hundred souls, and that his intercession shall be accepted, means that there is nothing to stop Allah from forgiving more that four hundred too. Similarly, we read that he Hajji’s prayer is answered every time he prays for someone, whoever which may be.
