Hadith Number Seven

Hazrat Umar R.A. said; ‘I would much rather prefer to commit seventy sins at Rukiya (outside Makkah) than to commit one sin inside Makkah. In the same way that righteous deeds are considerably increased in reward, so also sins there are tremendously multiplied. For this reason Hazrat Umar R.A. considered a sin in Makkah, seventy times more heinous than outside the Holy City. A similar saving of Hazrat Ibn Abbaas R.A. has already been quoted in chapter three. Hazrat Umar R.A. mentioned this on numerous occasions. It is for this reason that many elders of Islam did not approve of staying permanently in Makkah, because it is very difficult to give the place its rightful due in honor and respect. Hazrat Imaam Ghazali R.A. wrote that any sinful act is very strongly prohibited there and the committee of such acts can easily earn the anger of Allah. (Ithaaf)

Construction of The Holy Kaaba

The Holy Ka’ba had been re-erected quite a few time. About some of these times the ulama are agreed whereas there is some doubt about its erection at other times. For those interested in the historical issue of the Ka’ba’s erection see my Arabic commentary on Mu’atta Imaam Maalik called Awjaz al Massalik. A short synopsis of what is written there follows here:

1. The well know accepted view of the ulama is that it was originally erected by the angels about two thousand years prior to the creation of Hazrat Aadam A.S. some ulama even state that this was not the first time the Ka’ba was built. The first time was when Allah Himself caused it to be with His command; the angels had no part in its erection.

Hadith Number Four

Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri R.A. reports that Rasulullah Sal’am said: “Allah says: ‘That servant of mine whom I have given health and sufficient sustenance and he allows five years to pass by without visiting my House, he is verily deprived of great goodness and many blessings.”

The Mode Of Tawaf

Tawaf (Circumambulation) means turning round and round something but in the terminology of Shari’at one’s going round the Holy Ka’ba seven times with the intention of Tawaf is called ‘Tawaf’. One complete circuit is named as ‘Shaut’. Circumambulating any thing or place other than ‘Baitullah’ is unlawful. For ‘Tawaf’, intention is obligatory. Without defining an intention ‘Tawaf’ will stand unobserved, in whatever number the circuits may be completed. The intention for Tawaf, is to be pronounced with these words :-

“O Allah ! I intend Tawaf for the sake of Thy pleasure; Render it easy for me and accord it Thy approval”.

Lecture 4. The Perfectness of the Holy Prophet’s Life

My dear friends! The subject of today’s lecture is the perfectness of a biography. No life can serve as a model unless it shows perfectness in all aspects, even if it were based on historically sound and reliable sources. No life can be adjudged perfect and free of all shortcomings unless all its details are available to us. Looking at the life of the Prophet of Islam (Peace be upon him) from this perspective, we find that every significant moment of his life from birth to death was known to the people of his time, and since then has been preserved in the history of the world. There has not been a single span of time from his whole life that remained unknown to his people.
