Q. “Non-Muslims are not allowed to enter the city limits of Makkah Mukarramah and Madinah Munawwarah. The entry of non-Muslims in the Haram limits of Makkah was banned in 9th Hijrah by a Quranic order contained in the Surah al-Bar’ah, verse 27.
Did this order apply to the Haram of Makkah only or also to the Haram of Madinah? The Qur’an does not say so.
Imam Malik and Umar bin Abdul-Aziz etc. Interpreted the verse to apply to all the masjids.
Hazrat Abu Hurairah R.A. reports that Rasulullah Sal’am said; ‘The Hajis and those who perform umrah are Allah’s deputation. When they pray to Him, He answers them, and when they seek His forgiveness, He forgives them.’
The Hajis and those enroute to perform umrah are a deputation with special duties towards Allah. In the same manner that we have deputation and delegations going to the courts of great men and rulers, these people go to present themselves at Allah’s house. And in the same manner that a delegation desires to be honored, these people are honored in Allah’s presence. According to one Hadith: ‘The delegation of Allah are of three kinds: ‘the fighters in His way, those who perform Haj and those who perform umrah.’ (Mishkaat)
His principle in the matter of dress was convenience and informality. He would put on what was available and was not at all formal about it, i.e. he never cared for any particular kind or quality of clothing and under no circumstances, for fine and expensive one. He contented himself with what ever met the need for clothing. His dress consisted generally of a wrap or mantle and an IZAR (lower garment) made of coarse cloth. He is reported to have worn woolen clothing also. It has been narrated that his wrap was full of patches. He used it and would say, I am only a servant, and dress myself like one.” [Tradition from Shaikheen]
Certain Arab tribes who lived in remote areas far from Madinah, after embracing Islam used to send their delegations to the Holy Prophet (SAWS). These delegations used to stay at Madinah for a considerable period during which they would learn the teachings of Islam, read the Holy Quran and listen to the sayings of the Holy Prophet (SAWS).When they returned to their homes, some of them requested the Holy Prophet (SAWS) to dictate some instructions for them and for their tribes. The Holy Prophet (SAWS) used to accept this request and would dictate some directives containing such rules of Shari’ah as they most needed.
