Concise and foremost counsels Part 1

Hadrat Abü Hurairah (Radi Allaahu Ta’ala Anhu) narrated that the Messenger by ALLAH said, “My Lord has specially given me the following nine commandments:

1. Fear ALLAH in private and public:

2. Speak what is just and equitable whether in anger or in agreeable (mood) (i.e. it should not be like this that, when you are cross with someone and are enraged with him, then you usurp his rights and do injustice to him and when you are on friendly and good terms with someone, then you favour him and help unduly, but whatever the case may be, the middlecourse of fairplay and equity should be followed:

Aayat Number One

“Pilgrimage to the House (of Allah) is a duty man owes to Allah upon those who can afford the journey.”

The ulama inform us that Hajj became obligatory when this verse was revealed. When we look at the verse we see a lot of emphasis and stress. Let us study it:

Firstly, we find a Laam on the word of Allah (Lillaahi) which lays emphasis on the fact that Hajj is obligatory. (see Allama Ainy)

‘Alan-naas’ is another term that denotes extreme emphasis.

Oaths Related to Clothing and Other Matters

1. A person took an oath that he will not lie down on
this mat. Thereafter he spread a sheet onto this mat and lied down. His oath
will break. And if he placed some other mat or carpet onto the first mat and
then lied down, his oath will not break.

OATHS

1. It is an evil habit to take an oath over trivial
matters unnecessarily. In doing this, great disrespect is shown to the name of
Allah Ta’ala. As far as possible, an oath should not even be taken on things
that are true.

2. If a person takes an oath in the name of Allah by
saying: “I swear by Allah”, “I swear by God”, “I swear by the power of Allah”,
or “I swear by the greatness of Allah”, the oath will be considered. It will not
be permissible to go contrary to the oath. If the name of Allah Ta’ala is not
taken, and one merely says: “I take an oath that I will not do such and such
work”, the oath will still be considered.

Magnanimity

He was extremely gentle and never addressed anyone harshly, much less abused or cursed him or her. He treated even the unbeliever and the enemy courteously in the hope of winning them over: and overlooked their apparent rudeness. Inside his house he would do domestic work. Covering himself with his wrap he would take care not to expose his hands and feet (Probably when he was sitting). His kind disposition in impartiality were general for everybody. His anger would never get the better of him.

Anger Management

“The Qur’an and Hadith contain cures for anger.”

Medicine removes the root cause of disease. When Jesus (as) was asked to define the most difficult thing, he replied: “Allah’s wrath.” John the Baptist (Yahya, as) then asked: “What moves one closer to His wrath?” and Jesus replied: “Anger.” Yahya than asked: “What grows and increases anger?” and Jesus said: “Pride, prestige, hope for honor, and haughtiness.”

Self-conceit, self-praise, jest and ridicule, argument, treachery, and greed for wealth and fame exacerbate anger. Those who combine these characteristics within themselves manifest unbearable conduct, cannot escape their anger, and can remove them only if they apply their opposites: self-praise by modesty; pride by introspection, greed by remaining satisfied with necessary things, and miserliness by charity.
