Concise and foremost counsels Part 4

Hadrat Mu’az bin Jabel (Radi Allaahu Ta’ala Anhu) narrated that one day he requested the Messenger of ALLAH, Inform me, Messenger of ALLAH of an act which will cause me to enter paradise and remove me far from hell”. He said, “You have asked a serious question, but it is easy for the one whom ALLAH helps to answer it. Please listen, it is of primary importance, these basic requirements of religion should be met with care and determination. Worship of ALLAH and associate nothing with Him, observe the prayer in the proper manner single – mindedly. Pay the Zakat, fast during Ramadhan, and perform Hajj. He then said, “Shall I not guide you to the gateways of what is good? (i.e. whatever he had told were the pillars of faith and obligations – Faraiz) He then said, “Shall I not guide you to other gateways of what is good?” (Perhaps he meant voluntary Salaah) so, he appreciating the eargerness of Hadrat Mu’az narrated, “Fasting is a protection (from sins and hell fire) and alms – giving extinguishes fire, and Salaah in the middle of night (Tahajjud Salaah) has the same effect and has a special place in the gateways of what is good. After that he (in connection with the eminence of Tahajjud Salaah and Sadaqa) recited the following verse of Surah.

Return to Makkah from Mina

Now on the way from Mina to Makkah your staying for a while at the place of Muhassab is Sunnat. Nowadays, the conveyance of Motor Lorries is not usually in one’s own control. It is therefore very difficult to stay anywhere on the way. As such, there is no harm if due to this helplessness one does not stay at Muhassab (Zaubda).

1. GOOD INTENTION

Intention is an alchemic prescription that can turn base dirt into noble gold. The hadith says “All actions depends upon intentions.” It is sometimes interpreted to mean that good intentions justify bad deeds too and turn sins meritorious. This is entirely wrong. Sin is always a sin no matter how noble the intention may be. For instance if someone breaks into a house to steal with the intention of giving away as alms whatever he would steal would be a thief deserving the prescribed punishment. His good intentions would not earn him any merit nor would his sin be pardoned.

THE PROPHET’S AUTHORITY TO MAKE LAWS

A number of verses in the Holy Quran establish the authority of the Holy Prophet (SAWS) as a legislator or a law-maker.

Some of those are reproduced below:

1) The Holy Quran says:

“And My mercy embraces all things. So, I shall prescribe it for those who fear Allah, and pay Zakah (obligatory alms), and those who have faith in Our signs, those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered Prophet whom they find written down in the Torah and the Injeel, and who bids them to the Fair and forbids them the Unfair, and makes lawful for them the good things, and makes unlawful for them the impure things, and relieves them of their burdens and of the shackles that were upon them. So, those who believe in him, and honor him, and help him, and follow the light that has been sent down with him – they are the ones who acquire success” (7:157)
